Two workshops will be offered this year.

Disaster Preparedness (limit 40)
Wednesday, July 10, 2019
4:00 - 6:00 pm

$100

Instructor: Mike Thiemann, Division Chief of External Affairs & Emergency Management

Have you ever thought, "What would I do if a tornado struck my subdivision or my hospital?" or "What types of natural disasters can happen in our area?" We have the answers...this workshop will present an overview of information that prepares you to help yourself, your family, coworkers and neighbors in the event of a crisis in your community. It is based on a program known nationally as Community Emergency Response Team Training (CERT). This workshop will cover one element of the training which is how to become more disaster preparedness oriented. Participants will take a look at how things change in the event of a disaster and how they can make a difference in a mass casualty incident.

Attendees that register by June 21st will receive a first aid kit bag, Official CAT tourniquet, SAM splint and other goodies.

Instructor: Tessa Woods, MD General & Trauma Surgeon Cox Health

Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (E-FAST) refers to the use of ultrasound to diagnose intraperitoneal hemorrhage, hemothorax, hemopericardium and pneumothorax in trauma. This has applications in trauma as well as medical patients with iatrogenic pneumothorax, parapneumonic effusion, ascites and other common conditions. The workshop will evaluate the utility of the E-FAST exam and it strengths and weaknesses. You will learn how to interpret images from the exam. You will also be able to recognize when E-FASt is appropriate in the setting of the patient evaluation and when further or alternative testing is appropriate.
